The red eared sliding turtles are fresh water turtles. They spend most of there time in warm water of there native habitats. They are strong underwater swimmers but they spend most of there time hauling out on logs or rocks. But the FDA has banned the sale of the red eared sliding turtle of the length of 4 inches. Also it banned the sale of the turtle eggs. Keep this in mind when you want to buy your own turtle.

This turtle gets its name from the reddish strip behind the head. The undersurface of its chin is rounded and there is a V-shaped notch at the front of its jaw that is not flanked by cusps.
